Early Admission Procedures:

A. Four Year-Old Kindergarten:

No child may be admitted to four year-old kindergarten unless the child is four (4) years old on or before September 1 of the year that the child wishes to attend school

B. Five Year-Old Kindergarten:

  1. Except as outlined below, no child may be admitted to five year-old kindergarten unless the child is five (5) years old on or before September 1 of the year that the child wishes to attend school
  2. A child who becomes five years of age after September 1 and before September 16 of the same year may be considered for early admission to kindergarten
  3. The parent/guardian has provided the principal with a written request for early entrance to school for their child by April 1st of the calendar year entrance is requested.
  4. Upon receipt of the written request for early admission of a child to school, the District Administrator shall hold a personal interview to determine the parent’s/guardian’s reasons for requesting entrance prior to the legal age.
  5. Before the early admission evaluation can begin, the parent/guardian must give the District permission to test evaluate the child by signing a permission form provided on the following page.
  6. The principal shall require the child to complete assessments to evaluate the child’s potential to benefit from early admission to kindergarten. The evaluation shall consider social and mental maturity, academic and intellectual readiness, and fine motor development. The individual evaluation shall be conducted by the school psychologist in conjunction with other appropriate school personnel. The evaluation shall be at no cost to the parent/guardian.
  7. After completion of the evaluation, the principal shall hold a conference with the parents/guardians to consider the appropriateness of early entrance into kindergarten. On the basis of the evaluation, the principal will make a recommendation regarding the child’s eligibility. The decision of the principal may be appealed within 10 days to the District Administrator who will review the information and make a final recommendation.
