It is the policy of this District in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations:

In an effort to maintain a safe and healthful school environment the District will provide educational opportunities to students and staff regarding measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of contracting or transmitting communicable diseases at school and in school related activities.

The health department shall be notified immediately by the Principal/designee when the presence of a communicable disease is known or suspected in the school. In its compliance with public health reporting requirements regarding a suspected or confirmed communicable disease, the District will assure respect for the confidentiality of an individual’s and/or staff member’s health information and records in accordance with state and federal laws including HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).

The District Administrator may exclude students and staff from school and/or school related activities if they are suspected of or diagnosed as having a communicable disease that poses a significant health risk to others or that renders them unable to perform their jobs or pursue their studies. A student or staff member excluded from school pursuant to this policy may appeal their exclusion to the District Administrator.

Should the school be closed due to communicable disease, school closing days may be rescheduled at the discretion of the Board.
