The Board recognizes that it has a responsibility for preserving the safety, protecting the general welfare, and promoting the physical, mental and emotional health of individual students and the student body. Its goal is to develop and implement a PK-8 health service program under the guidance of a medical advisor and qualified school nurse.

A State Board certified medical doctor shall serve as medical advisor to the school. The emergency nursing services program in the District will be directed by a Wisconsin licensed nurse.

Emergency medical information cards shall be completed for each student and employee in the District. This information shall be maintained and disclosed in accordance with laws and regulations governing the confidentiality of student and personnel records. Protocol, forms, equipment, and supplies will be the responsibility of the nurse.

These services shall be available during the regular school day. The nurse will provide consultation and assistance to staff who are conducting school sponsored activities (field trips, etc.).

It is the responsibility of every staff member when planning and implementing a field trip to include the following items to be taken on the trip: first aid kit, cellular phone, scheduled and emergency use medications, and a list of emergency numbers for each student. These items will be with the group at all times on the field trip. The field trip sponsor will provide the school with the cellular telephone number in case an emergency contact must be made by the school during the field trip.

First aid kits, protective gloves, and other medical supplies necessary for providing emergency care services shall be available to all school personnel and shall be readily accessible during school-sponsored activities. A first responder network of properly certified staff shall be identified each year.

Records shall be maintained of all accidents and emergency care services provided.

The Board shall annually review and evaluate the emergency nursing service program.
